Second Assignment - Typesetting Exercise

Hi folks,

To give you some more practice with type, we are assigning a typesetting exercise (to start after tonight's crit).

DUE: Bring tight comps next week (2/15), finals the week after (2/22).

1) RESEARCH principles of good typesetting

* Use at least 3 sources for obtaining the principles
* one of these sources can be from the internet, ie. illene strizvers type studio, hoefler frere jones, etc.
* you may use more internet sources if you are using more than three sources, at least two from books.

2) TYPESET your findings demonstrating each of the principles you choose using text and display fonts

* use at least 3 examples
* use the text either verbatim or in your own words
* either way, CREDIT your sources in each entry!
* choose your fonts carefully
* Think about the design of the page(s) (i.e. no 8.5" x 11" size pages)
* Try a variety of approaches

the goal is to understand good typesetting principles and get comfortable typesetting and choosing fonts without abandoning your personal style.
