Create three feature spreads for three different existing magazines. The objective is to feature typography skills in an editorial format. Your art direction skills are also important.
1) Choose your magazines.
2) Identify target audience: age, gender, locale, income, and college.
3) Choose your topics. Each should make sense in the context of the three
different magazines.
different magazines.
4) Create mood boards of image and typography swipe for each of three spreads.
5) Narrow down to three distinct visual directions.
6) Create numerous variations for each.
a. Use the three feature spread formats discussed in class:
i. “A” picture on one page, text on the other page.
ii. “B” picture bleeds across the spread, text in the remaining space
(can also go on the image).
iii. “C” full bleed image across spread, text on top of the image.
You are expected to have three finished layouts with variations. Print to size. Include imagery, type, color and stylistic swipe research. Be prepared to introduce yourself and present your work. You may bring in previous drafts if you find it necessary or relevant for discussion. Please post your progress on your personal blog and comment on each other’s work.
